Derry/Londonderry’s first Screwfix store is declared a runaway success

Multi-channel trade retailer Screwfix is bucking a national trend for retail outlet closures with its new branch in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, which officially opened on Thursday 5 June. The store has already been declared a success with hundreds of customers visiting to pick up a bargain.

The Derry/Londonderry store, Screwfix’s 345th, is part of the company’s nationwide store expansion plan, which saw 60 new stores open across the UK in 2013 with a further 60 planned for 2014. Screwfix uses its own innovative retail model, which aims to provide its customers with outstanding service, together with value and convenience. Already 91% of the UK population is within a 30 minute drive of a Screwfix store.

Magdalen Magill, Derry/Londonderry Store Manager, comments: “It’s great to bring more custom to Northern Ireland, especially Derry/Londonderry, a thriving town with a great trade presence.  Our tradesmen are really busy travelling from job to job and need pick up supplies on their way, so opening a new store in Derry/Londonderry allows us to become more convenient for our customers.”

“Our celebration period, which ran from Thursday 5th, until Sunday 8th June attracted hundreds of customers and we are looking forward to welcoming many more local people as our presence grows. We have been out and about getting to know local businesses and in return we have received fantastic support from the community, who have all shown a keen interest in the store. It is extremely exciting that we have already attracted repeat business and we are all enjoying building relationships with our customers.”

Screwfix is also engaging with local charities through its own registered charity arm The Screwfix Foundation, which supports local charities and community projects involving fixing, repairing or maintaining buildings for those in need. Screwfix staff often get directly involved in fundraising events so building a greater network of stores will create further fundraising opportunities. Local registered charities are welcome to apply for funding from The Screwfix Foundation or can visit the Derry/Londonderry Screwfix branch to pick up a Screwfix Foundation Leaflet.
