Edinburgh-based charity receives £1,500 grant from the Screwfix Foundation

Upward Mobility Ltd, based in Edinburgh, is celebrating after receiving £1,500 worth of funding from The Screwfix Foundation, the charity which supports not-for-profit organisations in need across the UK to fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and facilities.

Upward Mobility Ltd provides support and opportunities for over 170 adults with a wide range of barriers to their personal development including learning disabilities and autism, and this includes having friendly and welcoming spaces.

Claire Farquhar, Head of Operations, comments “Upmo has benefited greatly from The Screwfix Foundation fund, enabling us to improve the standard and layout of both the café and the retail spaces within our Edinburgh service.  These employability workshops enable students with learning disabilities to learn skills which can improve their lives and their employment potential.  We are excited to have been able to re-open the on-site café using the allocated funds, not only because students can now enjoy a hot chocolate between activities, but importantly they can start learning the skills needed to be a barista”.

Claire Flory, the Screwfix Foundation manager says: “What Upward Mobility Ltd does is vital for the local community. The much-needed funding used to repair and maintain their employability workshops will be key in supporting the charity’s users. We are delighted to see that our donation has gone towards such an important project, for the benefit of those in need”.

Set up in 2013 after recognising the need to give back, The Screwfix Foundation has donated over £11m for good causes and helped over 2,400 local registered charities and not for profit organisations across the UK.

Charities and not for profit organisations with relevant projects are invited to apply online for a share of the funding at screwfixfoundation.com.
