Roofer crowned Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2019
Darren McGhee wins the coveted Screwfix title
Darren McGhee, a third generation roofer from North Lanarkshire is celebrating after being crowned Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2019.
Darren was presented one of the industry’s most coveted awards by Screwfix CEO, John Mewett, at Screwfix’s annual trade show Screwfix Live.
Receiving his award surrounded by fellow tradespeople in a packed out Farnborough Exhibition Centre, Darren now walks away with £10,000 worth of tools, £5,000 tech bundle and £5,000 towards future training.
Caroline Welsh, Director of Brand and Marketing at Screwfix, said: “Every year the judges and I are blown away by our tradespeople’s stories. When Darren came in the room his passion and commitment to his industry was contagious, but his customer care was outstanding.
“When he showed us his innovative MyRoofCare package we knew he was about to change the roofing industry. This first of its kind product, means that for a small monthly fee, homeowners can now have roof protection cover and no nasty surprises. Darren also went on to share how he trains his colleagues to ensure every customer gets the DMG Roofing experience.”
Darren McGhee said: “I am absolutely delighted to win this competition! Just making it to the final was a massive achievement so to win is amazing. The prize will be hugely valuable in helping me to continue to grow MyRoofCare and help raise standards in the roofing industry. I want to thank Screwfix and the other judges for this great opportunity.”
Now in its tenth year of the competition, Britain’s Top Tradesperson received over 1000 entrants. During the final, Darren and nine other finalists faced a panel of industry-leading judges including representatives from the NICEIC, CIPHE and FMB.
