Screwfix employee raises £25,000 for charity
Screwfix employee, Stuart Livingstone from Warrington, is celebrating his achievement in completing Marathon des Sables, a gruelling 156 mile race across the Sahara desert. Stuart has raised over £12,500 for The Screwfix Foundation, a charity which supports projects that fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and facilities for those in need. Stuart’s donation will also be match pound for pound by Screwfix bringing the total to over £25,000.
Stuart headed out to the Sahara on the 8th April to begin the gruelling Marathon des Sables, which is equivalent to five and a half marathons. If running through the desert wasn’t a challenge enough, he was also required to be self-sufficient, carrying everything he needed to survive, on his back. Stuart comments: “The Marathon des Sables was an epic and brutal experience, in equal measure. Thanks to the patience and support of my wife, the generosity of Screwfix suppliers and kind donations from family, friends and local businesses. It’s hugely satisfying that this adventure has managed to raise £25,000 for a brilliant charity, The Screwfix Foundation, helping those less privileged than myself.”
John Mewett, trustee of The Screwfix Foundation said: “The Screwfix Foundation relies on the money raised by fundraising events across the country in and around our Screwfix stores. We’re delighted that Stuart has completed this gruelling challenge which has raised over £12,500 for The Screwfix Foundation. Screwfix has promised to match Stuart’s donation pound for pound, bringing the total to over £25,000, and this will be donated to our well deserving national and local charity partners.”
The Screwfix Foundation launched in April 2013 and donates much needed funding to help a variety of projects, from repairing buildings and improving community facilities for those in need in the UK, to improving the homes of people living with sickness or disability.
