Screwfix team smash £100k target for charity

Screwfix employees are celebrating after raising an impressive £160,000 for The Screwfix Foundation following a national cycle relay.

Staff from Screwfix stores around the UK teamed up and took part in ‘Tour de Screwfix’, a mammoth 6,100 mile national cycle relay with pit stops at all 400 of the company’s UK stores. The ride raised valuable funds for The Screwfix Foundation, a charity which supports projects to fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and facilities for those in need in the UK.

900 Screwfix staff at each of its stores nationwide rode a leg, or multiple legs, over an eight week period to raise money for The Screwfix Foundation. The team raised an impressive £80,000 which has been pound matched by Screwfix bringing the total up to a massive £160,000!

The route started in Inverness, Scotland, taking in the challenging terrain, before making its way over the Irish Sea for the Northern Ireland leg of the tour. The baton then re-entered the British mainland and worked its way down England and Wales, before ending at Screwfix head office in Yeovil, Somerset.

On the final leg of the tour, 16 Screwfix head office employees rode a gruelling 186 miles over two days to Screwfix’s 400th store in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Ben Spalding, who rode 186 miles from Yeovil to Hinckley comments: “Taking part in Tour de Screwfix was a fantastic challenge to be part of. I’m extremely proud to have participated. It was a really tough ride and I had a gruelling two month training programme to ensure I could complete it! It was such a great way to raise money for The Screwfix Foundation.”

The Screwfix Foundation is now calling out for charities throughout the UK to apply for a share of the funds raised by ‘Tour de Screwfix’.

Andrew Livingston, CEO of Screwfix, said: “The Tour de Screwfix was a great way to raise money for The Screwfix Foundation and to celebrate the launch of our 400th store in Hinckley. I’m really proud of the commitment that our staff have given to support this valuable cause so that The Screwfix Foundation can help many more well deserving charity projects across the UK.”

The Screwfix Foundation works with two national charity partners, Barnardo’s children’s charity and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as lending a welcome helping hand to smaller, local registered charities, which are carrying out projects which involve fixing, maintaining or repairing buildings or facilities for those in need.
