Screwfix’s Christmas panto raises thousands for charity
December 2015
A number of employees from Screwfix have put on a show of a lifetime, or even three, by performing Aladdin’s Christmas Panto to fellow colleagues & their families from the Screwfix Head Office & Contact Call Centre to raise money for The Screwfix Foundation. More than 50 volunteers had given up their valued time by auditioning, practicing and perfecting the show, all out of working hours to raise over £6,000 for the charity.
The pantomime actors, set builders, musicians, costume designers and directors all put in the dedicated hours it takes to perform their three sell-out shows to staff and their families on Friday 11th December. Hundreds of Screwfix employees and their families watched the shows and there was also a silent auction there where the organisers raised a total of £6,000. Screwfix suppliers were also involved as not only did they donate the prizes for the auction but some also donated money to help with the cost of costumes, the set and lighting.
Mark Brooks, Senior Buyer of Workwear by day and showstopper Dame Window Twankey by night says: “It’s just great to help raise money for The Screwfix Foundation, we really wanted to do something different this Christmas and are overwhelmed by how much effort the volunteers had put in. It was an amazing performance showcasing lots of theatrical talents we didn’t know we had!”
The Screwfix Foundation launched in 2013 and donates much needed funding to help a variety of projects, from repairing buildings and improving facilities in deprived areas, to decorating the homes of people living with sickness or disability.
It works with two national charities, Barnardo’s children’s charity and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as lending a welcome helping hand to smaller, local registered charities behind projects which involve fixing, maintaining or repairing buildings or facilities for those in need. Relevant projects throughout the UK are invited to apply online for a share of the funding at screwfixfoundation.com
John Mewett, trustee of The Screwfix Foundation said: “The Screwfix Foundation relies on the money raised by fundraising events across the country in and around our Screwfix stores and head office. We’re delighted that Screwfix staff and are getting behind the charity and have done this fantastic performance to raise money, which we will then donate to well deserving national and local charities.”
