Two new Screwfix stores in South Wales declared as runaway successes

Screwfix is celebrating with two new stores opening their doors at Mill Street Industrial Estate in Abergavenny and School Hill Centre in Chepstow, which officially opened on 14 August. Both stores had a successful launch weekend with hundreds of customers eager to get their hands on a bargain.

The Abergavenny and the Chepstow stores are part of the company’s nationwide store expansion plan, which saw the retailer open 60 new UK stores in 2013 with a further 60 opening their doors in 2014. The company uses its own innovative retail model, which aims to provide its customers with outstanding service, together with value and convenience. Already 91% of the UK population is within a 30 minute drive of a Screwfix store.

Screwfix’s Chepstow Store Manager Andrew Larcombe said: “We chose to open new stores in Chepstow and Abergavenny as they’re both growing towns with great trade presence. Before opening our new stores here in South Wales, many of our customers only shopped online using the next day delivery service. The new stores give local tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts the convenience of our five minute Click and Collect service as they no longer have to travel so far.

“Our celebration period, which ran from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th , attracted hundreds of customers and both Vincent [Abergavenny Store Manager] and I are looking forward to welcoming many more local people over the coming months. We have received fantastic support from the local communities who have all shown a keen interest in the stores. It has been extremely exciting that we have already attracted repeat business and we are all enjoying building new relationships with our customers.”

Another aspect of Screwfix’s nationwide stores initiative is that the company is actively involved with local charities through its own registered charity arm The Screwfix Foundation, which supports local charities and community projects involving fixing, repairing or maintaining buildings for those in need in the UK. Screwfix staff get directly involved in helping community projects and host charity fundraising events within the stores. Local registered charities are welcome to apply for funding from The Screwfix Foundation and can visit the Abergavenny or Chepstow Screwfix branches to pick up a Screwfix Foundation, or download an application form from www.screwfixfoundation.com.
