Friends of Ysgol Bryn Derw Asd Special School gets a helping hand from The Screwfix Foundation

Friends of Ysgol Bryn Derw ASD Special School Charity, based in Newport, is celebrating after being awarded £5000 worth of funding from The Screwfix Foundation, a charity which supports projects to fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and facilities for those in need.

Stephanie Halsall from Friends of Ysgol Bryn Derw ASD Special School comments: “We are very grateful to The Screwfix Foundation for donating these much-needed funds to support our charity. Ysgol Bryn Derw is the only dedicated ASD Special School in the Gwent (EAS) region and Friends of Ysgol Bryn Derw is a fundraising group made up of friends, family, staff and the local community, who aim to raise funds and assist the school with its provision of an enriched curriculum and enhanced experiences for the pupils. The aim this year has been to support the sensory needs of pupils and provide opportunities for families to be part of a wider community of support. The funding has been used towards the development of the sensory garden area in the school with bespoke musical items, sensory spinners, planters and benches to increase the sensory opportunities for the pupils. We would like to thank everyone who was involved in the fundraising which has been of great benefit and a great help to us.”

Steve Dunston, Screwfix Foundation Trustee said: “Supporting charities such as Friends of Ysgol Bryn Derw ASD Special School with much-needed funding to help fix, repair, maintain and improve their facilities is vital. It’s great to see this donation go toward such an important project that benefits those in need.”

The Screwfix Foundation, which launched in April 2013 donates much needed funding to help a variety of local projects throughout the UK, from repairing buildings and improving community facilities, to improving the homes of people living with sickness or disability.

It also works closely with Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as supporting smaller, local registered charities like Friends of Ysgol Bryn Derw ASD Special School.

Relevant projects from across South Wales are invited to apply online for a share of the funding at screwfixfoundation.com.
